Running a local business these days takes a lot more than just a brick and mortar store.  In fact the nature of marketing has changed to reflect the changes in society where the majority are connected 24/7 to the Internet or web 2.0 through their computers, tablets, and cell phones.  People shop, share information, connect, and communicate across the vast network that is called the Internet.  The sheer size of it gives even the smallest business a running chance at being successful, it they take time to create a good web portal and do the proper keyword research.  Getting a good rating for the right keywords will place your business higher on the rankings.  Here are 4 reasons this is important.

Reason One.

High volume traffic to your local business website is not an accident. Indeed it is the process of researching the best and most relevant keywords to use as part of SEO that lifts rankings on the search engine results.  As anyone who has ever Googled something knows, get high up on the first page and chances are you’ll get more hits than being down on the bottom of page 2. Using a mix of 1-2 keywords and long keyword phrases will help you target the audience most likely to be looking for your product or service.

Reason Two.

Say you invested time to write a really relevant article for your website.  If you do not use keywords in it gained through careful keyword research there is a high chance that no one will read that article. No readers is a time and effort waster.  One can get mighty upset and frustrated by the lack of traffic and resulting sales. Taking time to research which keywords are going to drive the most traffic and including those on relevant content topics gives you fresh content and saves you from feeling disappointed.

Reason Three.

Performance on your search engine listings for a local business might not seem like a big deal. After all you want to target those in your community.  However, consider the broader reach of the Internet.  If you picked the best keywords as revealed through research and your business is still lagging, you need to examine the rest of the setup.  Of course poor keywords can drag down the most brilliant website, because few will ever see it. Search engine rankings depend directly on using the proper keywords.

Reason Four.

If you bought the services of a ghost writer to provide content for your web page, then your previous keyword research will maximize the investment. When you have paid cold hard cash for relevant content the last thing you want or need is sub-par old keywords that do not match your services, topics, or products. We have all been there, doing a search and gotten a result that was not relevant.  That points to poor keyword choice and a lack of research. Often times the hit-glance-move on type hits are discarded in SEO results and will lower rankings over time.
